Stay safe this holiday season with our 4th of July Safety Tips! We have developed this guide so that you and your family can prepare for Independence Day fun. As one of the busiest holidays of the year for firefighters and EMTs, we want to make sure that you can prevent any accidents and enjoy your day. Make good choices and take care of your kids and animals by thinking ahead! This comprehensive guide to fireworks safety was designed with your protection in mind.

 

4th of July Fireworks Safety Tips

  • Don’t try to make or alter fireworks
  • Never hold a lit firework in your hand
  • Everyone should wear safety goggles in case of stray fireworks
  • Keep a bucket of water or hose nearby
  • Nail mortor tubes to a board to prevent tipping
  • Wear protective gear, including goggles and gloves
  • Never light fireworks in grass or near forested areas
  • Don’t throw fireworks at people or cars
  • Light fireworks with a long lighter
  • Stand a good distance from any lit fireworks
  • Even sparklers can burn a child, protective gear can lower the risk
  • Never consume alcohol before lighting fireworks
  • Stay a good distance away from anyone being irresponsible
  • Contact the police if people are throwing fireworks at you
  • Even if you don’t light fireworks yourselves, be prepared to put out a fire
  • Keep extinguishers ready in your home
  • Don’t store fireworks in a hot car, as they may go off
  • Secure your animals indoors – they may get harmed chasing a firework
  • Put a security coat or blanket on your animals with anxiety
  • Make sure your children are visibly wearing reflective gear
  • Don’t go outside with sandals – wear close-toed shoes
  • Only purchase fireworks from reputable vendors
  • Don’t use expired or old fireworks
  • Submerge all firework paraphernalia in water before placing in trash
  • Keep the trash away from your house until the next morning for safety
